Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (BICG) is excited to announce the Handbook for Baltic Boards and Businesses, a practical guide for boards, owners and managers on how to build stronger companies through good corporate governance.
“Good governance advice is not too hard to find. What has been missing is a single place where it is gathered, explained and turned into practice, for all types of companies. The BICG has now written that manual, unique across the Baltics and elsewhere, covering the great majority of corporate governance areas, from how the good corporate governance framework divides duties between shareholders, board and management, to the right board composition, specific board roles across strategy, control and risks, as well as advice on board work organization and legal liability. Every chapter ends with key takeaways as well as questions each board should ask at their company, while annexes provide ready-to-use templates,” says Rytis Ambrazevičius, President of the BICG.
The new guide is grounded in the principles and recommendations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations (ecoDa), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other highly reputable organisations, and then goes further: it explains how those principles work in a real boardroom, what questions an effective board member should ask, and what good practice looks like in real-life calendars.
The Handbook will be introduced in an open webinar at the end of October.

While written for the boards working in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – three small, open economies where the same people move between listed, state-owned, family companies and company groups – it is also a reason why the Handbook can be useful well beyond the Baltics: anyone seeking to understand the practical side of good governance, from a first-time board member to an experienced governance professional, will find answers in it.
